Happy March! March always seems to be a transitional month between winter and spring, and feels like a great time to embrace goals as the new season unfolds. I love setting "micro" goals that can be contained within a month because I find it more approachable than vague, overarching goals that can stretch out for long periods of time with unclear steps to completion or accomplishment.
Last year, I embraced several monthly goals, and one of my favorites was taking one photo each day. These photos weren't staged or perfect; they were simply a snapshot into my life at the time. I found myself noticing and appreciating smaller things each day as I remembered my photography goal. Looking back at the photos I took over the month really made me happy for all of the positive things in my life. I would like continue to set micro monthly goals as I think of them!
Here are my March goals:
1. Continue to attend my Idaho Master Naturalist classes. These classes started in February, and I absolutely love learning about my surrounding natural world and meeting other people interested in nature.
2. Run in the Treasure Valley YMCA's St. Patrick's Day Run. I'm looking forward to wearing green and "running lucky" for this event!
3. Bike Commute at least once a week. The weather is warming up, and there is a particular freedom and pleasure in riding a bike as a means of transportation. It saves gas, gets my heart pumping, and gives me a chance to delight in Boise River sunrise views. A win-win-win all around!
4. Continue my monthly camping resolution. This month, I have my sights set on Bruneau Dunes State Park or another lower-elevation destination.
5. Host my family on their visit to Boise. I have been looking forward to this visit for a while. I plan to take my family cross country skiing (if snow conditions allow), hiking, and bird-watching.
6. Attend City of Boise's weekly wildflower walks. Learning about wildflowers and going out to spot them is one of my greatest joys, and I'm excited to spend my first spring here discovering wildflowers of the Boise Front. In February, I attended a lecture on wildflowers at the Boise Public Library, and am excited to start attending City of Boise's weekly wildflower hikes which are in various locations all over the city, and are focused on focal species and special wildflower areas each week. Ridge to Rivers, the City of Boise's unique multi-agency partnership for trail management, has a wonderful list of trails around Boise with great wildflower viewing.
Here's to a delightful March!
